What is a Relief Nursery and why is it important?
Last month I interviewed Cara Copeland, the executive director of the Oregon Association of Relief Nurseries. We talked all about infant and maternal well-being and the role of Relief Nurseries.
We explored many topics, including the shame and guilt that some caregivers experience when raising babies and toddlers while under the chronic duress of parenting without adequate supports. This quickly gave way to a conversation about policies and funding priorities that have largely bypassed or excluded the youngest humans and their primary caregivers.
We finished our conversation by envisioning what we could do in our communities when we begin to center the First 1000 Days of Life in our priorities.
Though we spoke for 45 minutes, we turned it into a video that is only 10 minutes long. I hope you join the conversation by watching the video and using one of the buttons below to share with your beloved community.
In Solidarity,
Chelsea King
